USU's 2023 DRTPM Community Service Program empowers farmers in Desa Bekiung with technology for producing organic NPK fertilizer from palm oil and livestock waste.

The 2023 DRTPM Community Service Program with the title "Application of Appropriate Technology for Producing Organic NPK Fertilizer Using Livestock and Oil Palm Waste in Desa Bekiung" has been successfully implemented. The community service team from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) under the Community Partnership Empowerment scheme was led by Hafnes Wahyuni, S.P., M.P., and included members R.B. Moh. Ibrahim Fatoni, S.Pi., M.P., and Rahmatika Alfi, S.P., M.Si. This program aimed to empower farmers through training and the application of appropriate technology at BUMDes Bangun Mandiri.

BUMDes Bangun Mandiri is located in Desa Bekiung, Langkat Regency, North Sumatra Province. The program also involved five students as part of efforts to support Key Performance Indicators (IKU) and the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. Through this training, farmers are expected to become more independent in utilizing livestock and oil palm waste to increase organic fertilizer production. The full video of this activity can be viewed on the YouTube channel of the Faculty of Agriculture USU.
