Medan, (28/9) – Proud news once again comes from the Undergraduate Program in Food Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU). Aura Faqiha Bahrainy (Student ID Number 230305025) was selected as a recipient of the Indofood Riset Nugraha (IRN) Program 2026–2027, one of the national-scale student research funding programs organized by PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk. The IRN program provides research funding assistance for undergraduate students conducting final projects or theses.

In the program, Aura Faqiha Bahrainy, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti, M.Si., is conducting research entitled “Optimization of Oven Drying Temperature and Time on Bioactive Compounds and the Antidiabetic Potential of Samosir Shallot Powder.” This research focuses on a local food commodity, namely Samosir shallots, as a research subject with the potential to be developed into a value-added product through a food technology approach and a study of its bioactive components.

The successful attainment of IRN 2026–2027 funding provides an opportunity for students to develop their ability to conduct research in a more structured manner while gaining experience in managing research activities. The program also provides a space for students to connect the knowledge acquired during their studies with food-related issues and potential found in the community.

The development of research based on local food is relevant to efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This activity contributes to SDG 1 – No Poverty through the development of local commodities that can increase economic value; SDG 2 – Zero Hunger through food development and diversification; SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being through research on food potential related to health; SDG 4 – Quality Education through improving students' research competencies; and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through synergy between higher education institutions and industry.

The Undergraduate Program in Food Technology, FP USU, expresses its appreciation and congratulations to Aura Faqiha Bahrainy for this achievement. This achievement is expected to motivate other students to continue developing innovative and relevant research ideas that provide benefits to society.
