IDN Times with Restorasi Ekosistem Riau hosts a screening of "Frontier Sumatra" and a talkshow on forest restoration at Faculty of Agriculture USU.

IDN Times, in collaboration with April Group and Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER), organized a roadshow to various universities in Indonesia. This time, the Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Sumatera Utara had the privilege of participating in the screening of the film "Frontier Sumatra" and a talkshow by Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER) at Garuda Hall, 8th Floor East Tower, Uniplaza Medan (Tuesday, February 21, 2023).

On this occasion, a MoA was also signed between USU, represented by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S., and IDN Times, along with the presentation of a certificate by IDN Times to the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara, in recognition of the cooperation in the screening event of "Frontier Sumatra".

Following the participant registration at Garuda Hall, the attendees, consisting of 200 students from the Faculty of Agriculture, were enthusiastically welcomed with a quiz with prizes and attractive door prizes for participants. The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, M.S., the Vice Dean III, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti, M.Si., along with lecturers and administrative staff, also participated and contributed to the success of this event.

The event continued with a screening of the film “Frontier Sumatra,” a 52-minute documentary highlighting efforts to protect endangered wildlife and plants, as well as forest restoration in the Riau ecosystem undertaken by April Group and Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER). This was followed by a talkshow titled “Forest Restoration and the Role of Youth,” featuring Tiurma Rosinta Siagian, Corporate Communications at Restorasi Ekosistem Riau.

Restorasi Ekosistem Riau (RER) is one of the largest restoration programs in Southeast Asia, located in Riau, North Sumatra, initiated by April Group to protect, research, restore, and manage biodiversity in a peatland forest area twice the size of Singapore, which boasts a high ecological value. Last year, RER hosted over 800 diverse flora and fauna, classified as critical, endangered, or vulnerable. RER has been established since 2013, and this event also marked the 10th anniversary of RER.

“The concept of Riau ecosystem restoration itself is to heal forests that have been damaged and, once they are restored, ensure they are protected from further damage,” said Tiurma during her talkshow.

The event was lively and smoothly conducted, evident from the enthusiasm shown by participants who asked many questions during the Q&A session and responded to the quiz questions given. On this occasion, RER also extended an open invitation to the Faculty of Agriculture USU students to join RER. The hope is that through this event, as the younger generation, we become more aware and actively contribute to preserving the environment, both in our immediate surroundings and the forest ecosystems that sustain all living beings, thereby achieving a sustainable environment.
