North Nias, October 10, 2026 — Students of the Off-Campus Study Program (PSDKU) North Nias conducted a field learning activity or field trip in Sawakete, Afulu District, North Nias Regency, on Saturday (October 10, 2026). This activity served as a means of connecting classroom materials with local environmental conditions while strengthening students' understanding of sustainable development.

The activity was also attended by the Head of PSDKU North Nias, Dr. Ahmad Muhtadi; Secretary of PSDKU North Nias, Julia Syahriani Hasibuan, M.Si.; and lecturer of PSDKU North Nias, Hemin Bei Gulo, M.Si. The guidance provided by the study program management and lecturers helped students connect their field experiences with academic knowledge.

Through learning outside the classroom, students had the opportunity to observe environmental conditions and discuss the potential and challenges of environmental management. This experience is expected to develop their observational skills, critical thinking, and awareness of the sustainable management of natural resources in North Nias.

This field trip aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through contextual learning that connects theory with direct experience. This connection specifically reflects the spirit of Target 4.7, which emphasizes strengthening learners' knowledge and skills to support sustainable development.

Learning about the environment and aquatic resources can also serve as a foundation for supporting SDG 14: Life Below Water by increasing understanding of the importance of protecting coastal and marine ecosystems and utilizing their resources sustainably. Meanwhile, exploring the surrounding environment is relevant to SDG 15: Life on Land, particularly in fostering awareness of habitat and biodiversity conservation.

Through this activity, PSDKU North Nias continues to promote learning that is closely connected to regional potential. Students are expected not only to strengthen their academic competencies but also to incorporate a sustainability perspective when understanding and responding to the development needs of North Nias.
