Regal Springs Indonesia together with the Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Sumatera Utara held a public lecture on aquaculture as part of the implementation of industry–academic collaboration to enhance student competencies. The activity featured practitioners and academics discussing global challenges, sustainable aquaculture practices, and food technology innovations, while also opening opportunities for collaboration, research, and career development in the fisheries sector.

Regal Springs Indonesia (PT Aqua Farm Nusantara), in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Sumatera Utara, organized a public lecture entitled “Next Wave Leaders: Mastering Aquaculture & Industry Skills” on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Faculty of Agriculture USU.

This activity was part of the implementation of the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed in 2024, aimed at strengthening synergy between industry and academia in the development of Indonesia’s aquaculture sector and producing competent aquaculture professionals.

President Director of Regal Springs Indonesia, Rudolf Hoeffelman, emphasized that aquaculture is not merely about fish farming, but also about managing natural resources wisely, maintaining a balance between business growth and environmental responsibility, and making decisions that create long-term impacts for society and ecosystems.

Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture USU, Tavi Supriana, expressed appreciation for the collaborative public lecture between Regal Springs Indonesia and the Faculty of Agriculture.

The agreement underlying this activity includes knowledge-sharing programs, research collaborations, internships at RSI production facilities, as well as mentoring and regular public lectures. All programs are designed to bridge academic curricula with real industry needs while opening concrete career pathways for university graduates in the fisheries sector.

The public lecture featured three speakers. Rudolf Hoeffelman, as the Key Speaker, presented the vision and challenges of the global aquaculture industry from a corporate leadership perspective. Friska S. Saragih, Lake Manager of Regal Springs Indonesia, shared firsthand experiences in managing responsible tilapia farming operations.

In addition, Adrian Hilman, lecturer of the Undergraduate Food Technology Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture USU and Vice Head of the USU Halal Research Center, provided an academic perspective on food technology innovations based on fishery products. The discussion session was moderated by Nursa’adah, a lecturer in the Agrotechnology Study Program at the Faculty of Agriculture, USU.

This activity is expected to strengthen sustainable collaboration between industry and academia while serving as a concrete step toward developing a generation of aquaculture leaders who are excellent, adaptive, and globally competitive, capable of contributing to the sustainable development of Indonesia’s fisheries sector.
