The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Bohol Island State University (BISU), Philippines, on 13 November 2025 at the FP USU Main Building, as part of a benchmarking activity aimed at strengthening academic collaboration and international research between the two institutions.

The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), officially established international cooperation with Bohol Island State University (BISU), Philippines, through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) held in the Meeting Room of the FP USU Main Building. This signing was part of a series of benchmarking activities conducted on 11–14 November 2025.

 

In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Ir. Tavi Supriana, MS, Dean of the USU Faculty of Agriculture, expressed deep appreciation for the visit of the BISU delegation. “It is my great honor to extend a warm welcome to the delegation from Bohol Island State University–Philippines. We are truly delighted to have you here with us today,” stated Prof. Tavi at the opening of the event. She also emphasized that this cooperation carries strategic value for both institutions. “This MoA represents more than a formal agreement. It is a strategic commitment that will strengthen international academic collaboration, expand research partnerships, and open opportunities for impactful innovations.”

 

The event was attended by leaders and academic representatives from both institutions. From FP USU, the attendees included the Dean of the USU Faculty of Agriculture, the Vice Dean III, the Heads and Secretaries of Undergraduate Study Programs, the Subdivision Head of Research, Community Service, and Collaboration, lecturers, and the Dean’s Expert Staff. Meanwhile, the delegation from BISU Philippines consisted of Roxanne P. Altea, Ph.D; Judith C. Odfeminina, Ph.D; and Denvincent A. Ruiz, Ph.D, who actively participated in the series of activities.

 

In her remarks, Judith C. Odfeminina, Ph.D, expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome from FP USU. “Bohol Island State University is very grateful to USU for your warm welcome. Thank you so much — you are wonderful people in Indonesia. We had a great time,” she enthusiastically conveyed.

This collaboration involves three study programs at FP USU, namely Food Technology (Undergraduate), Aquatic Resource Management (Undergraduate), and Food Science (Master’s). The planned forms of cooperation include joint research, student and faculty mobility, workshops, and various other academic activities.

 

This partnership is expected to bring significant impact to both institutions. The Dean of FP USU further emphasized, “Indonesia and the Philippines share similarities in agricultural systems, coastal ecosystems, and food security issues. Therefore, we believe this partnership will bring valuable insights and strengthen scientific capacity.”

 

FP USU hopes that this partnership will continue to grow into a long-term collaboration that is productive and provides tangible contributions to the academic environment and the broader community.
