The Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU) welcomed an academic visit from Australian students facilitated by International Internships as part of an international learning program. The activity featured a lecture on Indonesia’s palm oil industry delivered by Prof. Ir. Diana Chalil, M.Si., Ph.D., and served as a platform for academic exchange and the strengthening of international cooperation between FP USU and global partners.

Medan, June 15, 2026 – The Faculty of Agriculture of Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU) hosted an academic visit by 15 Australian students facilitated by International Internships as part of an international learning program aimed at introducing Indonesia’s education system, research environment, and strategic development issues. The visit involved 15 Australian students, 4 Indonesian students, and 2 accompanying staff members. The activity was held in International Classroom 1 of the Faculty of Agriculture, USU.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, USU, Dr. Rulianda Purnomo Wibowo, S.P., M.Ec., who expressed appreciation for the trust placed in FP USU as a destination for international learning activities. He also reaffirmed the faculty’s commitment to strengthening global collaboration in education, research, and sustainable agricultural development.

During the main session, Prof. Ir. Diana Chalil, M.Si., Ph.D. delivered a lecture on Indonesia’s palm oil plantation industry. The presentation covered the strategic role of palm oil in the national economy, sustainability challenges, and various efforts to develop the plantation sector while balancing economic, social, and environmental considerations.

The discussion was highly interactive and provided participants with a more comprehensive understanding of one of Indonesia’s leading agricultural commodities.

The event concluded with an exchange of souvenirs between the Faculty of Agriculture USU and International Internships as a symbol of strengthened institutional relations and a shared commitment to fostering international academic cooperation in the future.
