The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the preparation of the Research Master Plan (RIP) and the Strategic Plan (Renstra) for Community Service on Thursday, October 16, 2025. The event was conducted in a hybrid format at the DH Penny Hall, FP USU.
The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Ir. Elisa Julianti, M.Si., Vice Dean III of FP USU, and attended by Heads and Secretaries of Study Programs as well as lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture. The speakers were Prof. Dr. Robert Sibarani, MS., Head of the USU Research Institute, and Prof. Dr. Tulus, Vor.Dipl.Math., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the USU Community Service Institute (LPPM).
The discussion was conducted interactively and productively. In his presentation, Prof. Robert Sibarani expressed his appreciation for input from faculties in drafting the RIP.
“The USU Research Institute highly appreciates feedback like this in formulating the university’s RIP so that it can encompass strategic issues from each faculty,” said Prof. Robert.
Meanwhile, Prof. Tulus emphasized the importance of continuity in community service activities.
“LPPM USU strongly supports the continuation of community service programs that have been carried out in previous years. Although multi-year schemes are no longer available under the TALENTA USU program, such activities can still be proposed,” explained Prof. Tulus.
At the same occasion, Prof. Elisa Julianti highlighted the importance of external collaboration in supporting community service activities.
“Regarding funding for community service programs, both lecturers and faculties can collaborate with companies that have CSR funds to be distributed to the community. This should also be included in the Faculty’s Strategic Plan,” explained Prof. Elisa.
Concluding the event, Prof. Elisa expressed her hope that the outcomes of the FGD would serve as a foundation for shaping the research and community service directions within FP USU.
“I hope this FGD will be beneficial for program heads and secretaries in formulating strategic research and community service issues relevant to their fields, which will later become part of the Faculty’s RIP and Strategic Plan,” concluded Prof. Elisa.
