Undergraduate Program (S-1)

The Undergraduate Program in Animal Science at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a study program that focuses on the raising and management of farm animals such as cows, goats, chickens, and other types of farm animals. The main focus includes an understanding of nutrition, health, reproduction, and management of farm animals. Established in 1981, this study program was established with the aim of providing teaching in the science of raising, managing, developing technology, and marketing farm animals and their products.

The USU Undergraduate Program in Animal Science has successfully produced quality graduates who are experts in the field of animal husbandry. Supported by expert teaching staff, the program is committed to providing the best integrated curriculum and teaching materials to guide students to become skilled and innovative individuals in the livestock industry. Upon completion of this study program, students will be awarded the Bachelor of Animal Husbandry (S.Pt.) degree in recognition of their expertise and qualifications in the field of animal husbandry.

History

1962

In 1962, on the initiative of Prof. Soeratman, the Major of Animal Science was established as one of the majors in the Universitas Sumatera Utara Faculty of Agriculture.

1968

In 1968, the name of the Major of Animal Science was changed to the Major of Mixed Farming by Prof. Tan Hong Tong and Prof. Soeratman.

1983

In its further development, namely in 1983, the name of the Major of Mixed Farming was changed again to the Major of Animal Science through the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0535/0/1983 dated March 14, 1983.

1984

Furthermore, in 1984, the Undergraduate Program in Animal Science was established at the Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture, USU, based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 131/DIKTI/KEP/1984 dated November 2, 1984.

1996

In 1996 until now, the Undergraduate Program in Animal Science was changed to the Undergraduate Program in Animal Production based on Decree No. 20/DIKTI/KEP/1996.

2005

Based on the Rector's letter No. 702/J05/KP/2005, which stated in connection with the Government Regulation No. 56 of 2003 dated November 11, 2003, concerning the establishment of USU as a State-Owned Legal Entity and USU Board of Trustees decision No. 1/SK/MWA/I/2005 dated January 8, 2005, concerning the Bylaws that the term major was changed to the department.
