FP USU held a PPKS task force socialization on preventing and addressing sexual violence in campus environments. This initiative promotes a safer and violence-free academic community.

Medan – FP USU: The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), hosted a socialization event by the Task Force for Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) within faculties and postgraduate schools. The event took place at the DH Penny Seminar Room, Faculty of Agriculture USU, Medan, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

The event began with opening remarks by the Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Agriculture, Ir. Revandy I. M. Damanik, M.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. The first session featured a presentation on the definition and types of sexual violence by Dr. Nurman Achmad, S.Sos., M.Soc.Sc., Vice Dean II of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. The second presentation, introducing the PPKS Task Force, was delivered by Restu Pratama, S.E., Secretary of the USU PPKS Task Force.

USU established the PPKS Task Force last year under the leadership of Meutia Nauly, S.Psi., M.Si. This initiative follows the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 30 of 2021 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence in Higher Education Institutions. The task force provides a reporting service for students and staff to lodge complaints regarding sexual violence incidents, along with follow-up support and victim assistance.

“Reports can be submitted by providing evidence such as photos, videos, or witness testimonies. Complaints can be sent via WhatsApp, email, or Instagram to the USU PPKS Task Force, or reported to faculties, which will forward them to the university for further action,” explained Dr. Nurman during his presentation.

The socialization event ran smoothly and was attended by the faculty leadership, lecturers, administrative staff, and students of the Faculty of Agriculture. Participants were informed about the various types of sexual violence, prevention measures, and appropriate handling procedures in case of incidents. A Q&A session provided participants an opportunity to discuss specific challenges they face in their academic environment.

This socialization aims to encourage the academic community, including lecturers, staff, and students, to actively prevent and address sexual violence in campus environments. Recognizing the seriousness of this issue, such initiatives are crucial for fostering awareness, prevention, and early intervention.
