Master's Program (S-2)

The Master's Program in Animal Science at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a study program that focuses on teaching the science of raising, managing, developing technology, and marketing livestock and livestock products. The program covers various aspects of science, including agricultural socioeconomics, nutrition, and livestock products. Since its establishment in 1981, the program has successfully produced quality graduates and skilled livestock experts in various parts of Indonesia.

Managed by qualified lecturers and experts in their fields, the USU Master's Program in Animal Science is committed to presenting an integrated curriculum and the best teaching materials to guide students to become skilled and innovative individuals in the livestock sector. Graduates of this study program will earn a Master of Animal Science (M.Pt.) degree upon successful completion of this study program.

History

1962

The history of the Master's Program in Animal Science is inseparable from the formation of the Animal Science study program at the undergraduate level. In January 1962, on the initiative of Prof. Soeratman, the Department of Animal Husbandry was formed as one of the Departments of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara.

1968

Seeing the rapid development of plantations, in 1968, the status of the Department of Animal Husbandry was changed to the Department of Mixed Farming.

1983

The name of this department lasted until 1983 when the Mixed Farming Department was changed back to the Animal Husbandry Department which was strengthened by the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 0535/0/1983 dated March 14, 1983.

1984

Furthermore, in 1984, the Animal Science Study Program was established at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 131/DIKTI/Kep/1984 dated November 2, 1984.

2009

The Master of Animal Science Study Program was established on May 4, 2009 based on the approval of the Director General of Higher Education Decree No. 681/D/T/2009 and the operational permit of the Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara No. 922/H5.1.R/SK/PRS/2009 dated May 11, 2009 and is the first study program to open a master's program in the northern Sumatra region.
