Strengthening North Sumatra's Food Security, Faculty of Agriculture USU Discusses Collaboration with the North Sumatra Provincial Food Security, Food Crops and Horticulture Agency The Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), discussed opportunities for collaboration with the North Sumatra Provincial Food Security, Food Crops and Horticulture Agency to strengthen regional food security. This synergy between higher education institutions and local government is expected to contribute to sustainable food development that adapts to climate change, in line with SDG 2, SDG 13, and SDG 17. 13 October 2026

Strengthening EWS Cik Laila, Dean of FP USU Encourages Data Integration and Collaboration for Inflation Control in Pematangsiantar The Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FP USU), served as a speaker at a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the development of the Cik Laila Early Warning System (EWS) of the Pematangsiantar City Government. The discussion emphasized the importance of a development roadmap, cross-agency data integration, and diversification of food supply sources to support regional inflation control. This activity aligns with SDG 2 and SDG 17. 13 October 2026

FP USU Summer Course 2026 Brings Industry-Based Agricultural Learning to PTPN IV Regional II Adolina Unit International students participating in The 4th TALENTA-Agricultural Summer Course 2026 of FP USU visited PTPN IV Regional II Adolina Unit to learn about oil palm plantation management and the application of agricultural technology in industry. The activity enriched their learning experience through direct observation while strengthening the connection between higher education, industry, and international academic networks. 13 October 2026

Agrotechnology Students of FP USU Participate in Accelerated Soybean Planting across Seven PTPN IV Regional II Plantations Students of the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture, USU, participated in the Accelerated Soybean Planting activity across seven PTPN IV Regional II plantations as part of their internship program. The activity provided practical experience in crop cultivation and plantation management while supporting increased soybean production, national food security, and collaboration between higher education institutions and industry in line with SDGs 2, 8, and 17. 13 October 2026

MSP USU Head Serves as Speaker at Technical Consultation on the Proposed Designation of Pulau Pandang Marine Conservation Area Dr. Ahmad Muhtadi, S.Pi., M.Si., Head of the Undergraduate Program in Aquatic Resources Management (MSP) at USU, served as a speaker at a technical consultation on the proposed designation of the Pulau Pandang Marine Conservation Area in Batu Bara Regency. The activity discussed ecological and socioeconomic aspects, as well as the proposed zoning design, as a basis for refining the conservation area proposal to support marine ecosystem protection and sustainable aquatic resource management, in line with SDG 14 and SDG 17. 12 October 2026

PSDKU North Nias Students Conduct Field Trip in Sawakete, Strengthening Learning and Environmental Awareness Students of PSDKU North Nias conducted a field trip in Sawakete, Afulu District, to strengthen their academic understanding through hands-on learning while raising awareness of environmental conservation and sustainable development. Faculty of Agriculture USU Alumni Isten Sweno Tamba Elected as Chairperson of LPDP Water Professionals 3.0 for the 2025–2027 Term Isten Sweno Tamba, an alumnus of the Undergraduate Program in Aquatic Resources Management, Faculty of Agriculture USU, has been elected as Chairperson of LPDP Water Professionals 3.0 for the 2025–2027 term. This achievement is expected to serve as motivation to continue working and contributing to sustainable water resource management and national development, in line with SDG 6 and SDG 17. 12 October 2026

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosazlin Abdullah from Universiti Malaya Discusses Biochar Innovation at the TALENTA Agricultural Summer Course 2026 The Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture USU, hosted Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rosazlin Abdullah from Universiti Malaya for an international public lecture discussing the role of soil health and biochar innovation in supporting sustainable food production and strengthening agricultural system resilience in the face of climate change. The activity also strengthened knowledge exchange and international academic networks. 09 October 2026

Vira Irma Sari, Lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture USU, Receives Favorite Presenter Recognition at the 8th ICAGRI Vira Irma Sari, S.P., M.Si., a lecturer at the Faculty of Agriculture USU, received recognition as one of the Favorite Presenters at the 8th ICAGRI in Banda Aceh. The recognition was awarded for her engaging and communicative presentation on dark septate endophytes as biostimulants for oil palm seedlings, which received positive responses from the audience. This achievement strengthens FP USU's contribution to scientific communication and international academic networking. 08 October 2026

From Oil Palm to Microgreens: Research by Faculty of Agriculture USU Lecturers Presented at the 8th ICAGRI Lecturers from the Faculty of Agriculture USU participated in the 8th ICAGRI in Banda Aceh by presenting research on the use of dark septate endophytes in oil palm seedlings and the development of okra microgreens. This participation strengthened research dissemination, academic networks, and contributions to sustainable agriculture through SDG 2, SDG 4, and SDG 17. 08 October 2026
