Agrotechnology

Undergraduate Program (S-1)

The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology is a study program that unites agricultural science with modern technology to increase productivity and efficiency in intensive agricultural systems. Established in 1952, students will study various courses covering critical aspects such as seed technology, soil fertility, agribusiness marketing, integrated pest and disease control, agricultural biotechnology, and post-harvest technology.

With the knowledge gained, graduates of the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology are ready to support farmers in managing risks, adopting modern technology, providing practical recommendations related to the selection of crop varieties, optimal use of fertilizers, pesticides, and pest and disease control strategies. This study program offers not only a theoretical foundation, but also relevant practical skills to support sustainable and technologically efficient agriculture. Students who complete this program will earn a Bachelor of Agriculture (S.P.) degree as proof of their expertise and qualifications in agriculture.

History

1956

The USU Faculty of Agriculture was established on November 16, 1956.

1958

The USU Faculty of Agriculture was established as a State University under the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 4691/S.

2008

The Undergraduate Program in Agroecotechnology was formed from the merger of four study programs on the policy issued by the Higher Education Institution and outlined in the decision of the Director General of Higher Education No. 163/DIKTI/Kep/2007.

2012

The National Accreditation Board of Higher Education stated that the USU Faculty of Agriculture Undergraduate Program in Agroecotechnology is accredited with B accreditation.

2022

The National Accreditation Board of Higher Education stated that the USU Faculty of Agriculture Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology is accredited with Excellent accreditation as outlined in the decision letter 2276/SK/BAN-PT/AK-ISK/S/IV/2022.

To become a study program with the strength and ability to compete internationally in 2039 in developing science and technology of plantation crop cultivation and sustainable horticulture.

  1. Organizing education programs in agrotechnology as a platform for graduates to develop BINTANG character and professionalism and develop themselves along with the development of science and technology in agriculture, especially in the field of plantations.
  2. Providing graduates who can compete globally, develop themselves according to the needs of the workplace, especially in the field of plantations, and are capable of entrepreneurship.
  3. Develop and improve research and community service in TALENTA, especially agroindustry, as well as a source of consultation/information and reference for the industry, especially in plantation, agriculture, and agroindustry.
  4. Establishing partnerships nationally and internationally in the field of agriculture.

UKM Klinik Tanaman (English: Plant Clinic Student Activity Unit) of the USU Faculty of Agriculture, which was first conceptualized in 2014 by Rodyan Tambun Saribu, Anugrah P. Pradipta H., and Riri Widaryanto, was an initiative of students of the USU Faculty of Agriculture Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology with an interest in Plant Pests and Diseases class of 2011. On December 16, 2016, the Plant Clinic was inaugurated as a student activity unit led by Faisal Azhari, a student of the USU Faculty of Agriculture's Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology class of 2013. Although the initial leadership came from the Undergraduate Program in Agrotechnology class of 2013 with an interest in Plant Pests and Diseases, subsequent management managed to cadre from other interests and study programs, reflecting the development and inclusiveness of this student activity unit.
